2:30 am came awfully quickly. We were up and actually got out of the house earlier than intended. That was actually a good thing because I still had to stop by the ATM to get some cash. Nothing like waiting till the last minute huh? Anyway... we made our way to the airport, checked our bags and made it through security mostly uneventful (I will get to that in a minute). Our flight out of Denver was on time and went smoothly. We arrived in San Franciso to a flight delay that started out as only about 40 minutes or so. Well, as it turns out, there was a mechanical problem with the plane we were supposed to be on so they had to bring in another one from LA. That wouldn't be a big deal but there were delays due to fog and what was supposed to be an 8:35 am departure became a 10:59 departure. As we were coming in for landing, we were coming in along the coast (Honolulu Int'l Airport is right on the coast) and the beautiful blue green of the ocean just astounds me. To think about how dark and dingy the water is on the coast of the mainland and then to see this, it's gorgeous. We got off the plane, got our bags and were able to get right on the first shuttle to get the rental car. We got our car... a convertible, what else? Then we ate and headed for the North Shore. First we hit "rush hour" traffic at 3pm.
Then after missing a couple turns, we finally made it to the condo. It's nice... and we have a view of the ocean right from our lanai. This is the view tonight when we got back from picking up some food and such. When we got back to the condo, there were some people out at the bbq grills (which are right next to the beach) with the torches lit.
Tomorrow I will have some pictures while it is light out. It really is beautiful. I can't wait to explore the island some more. I know it is cliche but I will say it anyway... Wish You Were Here!!!
So as for the only somewhat uneventful sercurity screening in Denver. I had packed my portable DVD player thinking it would come in handy on the long flight. Well, when the bag it was in went through the x-ray, they took the bag and said they needed to run it through again. Well, what they failed to tell me was that they took the DVD player out of the bag!!!!!! So of course when gathering all our stuff as we were leaving the security area, we weren't looking for it to be out of the bag. Unfortunately we didn't even realize this until we had boarded the flight from San Francisco and we went to take it out to use during the flight. I am really mad about it but honestly there is nothing I can do about it right now. I will look into it and see if there is a lost and found we can look in when we get back to Denver on Tuesday. I won't let it get to me while on vacation in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
